The Princess of Wales's Traditional Yuletide Musical Celebration Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will hear a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including award-winning actors.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to public life following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the charity, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
